  We took a trip to Little Liberty this afternoon (Thursday, 4/6) and my 11 year old son picked up a Nerf gun marked for $1.00 and took it to the counter to buy it. When he got to the counter to pay, the manager (Brittany) snatched it from his hands and said that a dollar isn't enough and that the sticker must have been manipulated (it was stuck on there really well and didn't look manipulated to me - and, he's gotten plenty of similar sized guns there for $1.00-$3.00 in the past.) I asked how much a gun that size would sell for and she said $4.00-$5.00 so I asked if we could pay what she thought it should be and she said that she'd have to test it to make sure it worked and re-price it and it would be back out for sale in 2-3 days. I asked if they had any darts that we could test it with and then pay the higher price and she said they were all bagged up for sale. I took the kids out to the car and was so upset! I went back in and explained that my son was really disappointed because he was so excited about finding that particular gun. And she wouldn't budge! I asked if I could buy a baggie of darts and try it out and if it worked, buy it for the higher price and she said it was "against policy" and if she did that for me, she'd have to do that for everyone . Finally, I asked if she could at least put it on hold for him once she was able to test it and re-price it and she said that was also against the store's policy. I drove home feeling really let down. My son kept asking why the lady wouldn't let him buy the gun and I had no answer for him. Neither of her arguments made ANY sense. Why would someone switch price stickers for something that must have cost a dollar? Or, if someone had switched the one dollar sticker to the gun, why hadn't they bought it? And I can't understand where the need to test the gun to make sure it wasn't broken came into the situation. Nothing indicated that the gun was possibly broken. When I mentioned that, Brittany's response was that kids play with the toys and it could have gotten broken. If that's the case, then everything sold at Little Liberty should be tested right before it's sold because there's no guarantee that little hands haven't picked something up. I called the Liberty office and spoke with Kevin who was very kind and agreed that it shouldn't have been difficult for the gun to have been tested while we were there and sold to my son. He said that he'd have Brittany call me to figure things out. When she called later this afternoon, she said she was able to test the gun out and that it worked and that the price was now $4.00 and she'd hold it for us until tomorrow. Any other retail store I've shopped at where something has been mis-priced has honored the lower price. We're talking a $3.00 difference here. That I have to drive back to the store tomorrow and my son has to pay more money doesn't seem right. At the very least, I think the original marked price should be honored but an apology to my son wouldn't be unwarranted.
